Romanian Avant-garde at Stanford

Stanford University | Department of Music | CCRMA Stage

Labyrinth Theater - Workshop & Performance, texts by Gellu Naum & Gherasim Luca (Fri, 05/19/2017 - 3:00pm & 7:30pm)

Reading Lee Todd Lacks (Tue, 05/30/2017 - 7:30pm - 9:30pm)

Gellu Naum and Gherasim Luca meets Lee Todd Lacks

The Romanian Cultural Institute in New York and the Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics (CCRMA) at Stanford University present a series of events dedicated to the Romanian avant-garde poetry and theater.

During a 3-hour interdisciplinary workshop, Romanian actor Adrian Ciglenean and Romanian violinist Olga Berar invite the audience to discover the basics of “inner theatre”. Most of the activities in the workshop have an applied nature consisting of individual and group exercises punctuated by theoretical aspects meant to put things in perspective. The case of Romanian surrealist poets Gellu Naum (1915-2001) and Gherasim Luca (1913-1994) will be presented as reference and inspiration.

The workshop and presentation will take place on May 19, on the CCRMA Stage (The Knoll), between 3:00-6:00 PM and 7:30-8:30 PM, respectively. A Q/A session, introducing content and coaches to registered participants, will take place on May 18th, between 3:00-3:30 PM in the Listening Room at CCRMA (The Knoll).

On May 30, at 7:30 pm, on the CCRMA Stage (The Knoll), it will be presented “Reading Lee Todd Lacks” - an interdisciplinary performance for 35 blindfolded audience members. It is also an introduction to “inner theatre”- the flagship performative concept of “Citit În”, an interdisciplinary laboratory based in Bucharest, Romania dedicated to informal research on the poetics of senses.

Performed by: Olga Berar (RO), Constantin Basica (RO/US), Alex Chechile (US), Adrian Ciglenean (RO) and Lee Todd Lacks (US).
