With the occasion of his 80th Anniversary, YIVO organizes a festive celebration of Norman Manea, holocaust survivor and one of the most important contemporary Jewish-Romanian-American writers. Norman Manea’s work has been translated and acclaimed in more than 25 languages and received important international prizes. Speakers Leon Botstein, President of Bard College, Robert Boyers, editor of Salmagundi, Edward Hirsch, poet and president of the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, and Michael Shafir, professor at Babes-Bolyai University Cluj, Romania, will discuss Norman Manea, his work, and his influence. The event will conclude with a dialogue between Norman Manea and Jonathan Brent, Executive Director of YIVO, on "Jewishness and Literature."

The event is presented in partnership with the Romanian Cultural Institute in New York, and the Consulate General of Romania in New York.

Cu ocazia celei de a 80-a aniversări a scriitorului Norman Manea, Institutul de Cercetări Evreiești (YIVO) din New York, în parteneriat cu ICR New York și Consulatul General al României la New York, organizează o celebrare festivă a lui Norman Manea, supraviețuitor al Holocaustului, unul dintre cei mai importanți scriitori româno-americani de origine evreiască. Opera sa a fost tradusă în peste 25 de limbi, obținând numeroase premii internaționale. Invitații evenimentului – Leon Botstein, președintele Bard College, Robert Boyers, editor al Salmagundi, Edward Hirsch, poet și președinte al John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, și Michael Shafir, professor al Universității Babeș-Bolyai din Cluj-Napoca (România) – vor vorbi despre opera sa și influența scrierilor sale. Evenimentul se va încheia cu un dialog între Norman Manea și Jonathan Brent, director executive al YIVO, cu tema "Evreitate și literatură".
